Year R Suns

Welcome to Suns!

Starting school is an exciting milestone in your child’s life and Suns Class is one of the Reception year groups at Hillcrest Primary School where their educational journey begins and the foundations of learning are laid.

I am Mrs Fysh, the class teacher for Suns, and leader of our Early Years Foundation Stage Team. I particularly enjoy storytelling and have a passion for ceramics and textile design. In exploring the world of pretend, I am always amazed how the natural curiosity of children enables them to notice everything and closely observe the most ordinary of things that adults often take for granted. Building on children’s interests can lead to them creating amazing inventions and representations!

Mrs Pepper is one of the teaching assistants for Suns Class, she is always ready with a smile or an encouraging word and the children respond well to her warm and bubbly personality. Mrs Poynter also works as a teaching assistant in Suns and helps to provide the nurturing and supportive care which is so important when enabling our young learners to develop into independent, happy and confident achievers. As HLTA, Mrs Farmer covers Suns when I am out of the classroom. She has a flair for languages and devising innovative ways to deliver our curriculum, resulting in lots of fun, high levels of engagement and fantastic progress. We work closely with our parallel class Asteroids, providing the children with a safe, secure and happy start to school.

Your child’s Reception year marks the end of their journey through the Early Years Foundation Stage, in preparation for the transition into the National Curriculum in Year 1. We aim to help prepare your child for future learning and successes by providing experiences which are happy, active, exciting, fun, secure and which supports their individual development, care and learning needs.

Ideal education can be measured in many ways, and sometimes it cannot. At Hillcrest we care equally about fulfilling and improving the potential of every child, alongside providing the qualities and experiences of childhood which are not always so easily measured. As well as becoming the best they can possibly be academically, we also aim for each of our children to enjoy an education where happiness and confidence are nurtured and valued. Therefore, play underpins the delivery of all areas of the EYFS curriculum and the development and learning for our youngest children. We are committed to providing safe, happy and well-planned experiences based on children’s spontaneous play, both indoors and outside. From Pirate role play days and Bear Hunt adventures, to watching the wonders of caterpillars transforming into butterflies! We aim to ensure your child has the best possible start to their school career and by working closely with you we hope to draw out your child’s full potential – ‘growing together, achieving together.’
