Year 5 Jupiter
Welcome to Jupiter Class!
My name is Mrs Muskett and I teach in Jupiter Class with our Teaching Assistant, Mrs Passmore. Jupiter is one of our Year 5 classes, alongside Venus, Europa and Ganymede.
Jupiter is the fifth planet from the Sun and the largest in the Solar System. It is a giant planet with a mass one-thousandth that of the Sun, but two-and-a-half times that of all the other planets in the Solar System combined!
We are all thrilled to be in Upper Key Stage 2 where we are learning to be more independent and creative in our learning. By Year 5, pupils should have developed many of the basic technical skills that they need in English and Mathematics. From this, much of the focus is now about applying these skills in more imaginative and innovative ways.
We look to expand our vocabulary, and lots of reading from a variety of different sources plays an important role in this. In Jupiter, we believe that reading is your window to a new world, so read, read, read and explore those fantastic, imaginative worlds.
In Mathematics, we use our fluency of number, calculation, shape and measure to carry out problem solving. We work hard to apply our vast knowledge into solving problems, as well as explaining the most efficient methods in solving them. Our Maths Mastery lessons aim to improve pupils’ enjoyment, resilience, understanding and attainment in maths. Investigation sessions link all aspects of mathematics together within a practical context.
We will be working on a wide range of topics over the year and will be learning lots of exciting new things in fun and interesting ways.
Year 5 presents us with lots of new challenges and we approach these with enthusiasm and anticipation!
