Year 2 Planets
Welcome to Planets class and Year 2!
Welcome to our class! My name is Mrs Roberts, and I am relatively new to the Hillcrest team. After my initial visit to Hillcrest, I knew instantly that I wanted to work here. I was inspired by the wonderful outdoor spaces, the creativity shown in the classroom displays, and I was impressed by how focused and well-behaved the children were.
I work alongside our amazing teaching assistant, Miss Spiller, working as a team to nurture, support and bring the very best out of the children in our class. Throughout the year we place a growing emphasis on being independent learners. We work towards building our skills in the 5Cs (creative, curious, communicate, collaborate and confident) and also 3B4T, paving the way to become independent, lifelong learners.
I have been teaching for 18 years and, over those years, I have been passionate about using high-quality texts can enthuse and inspire, opening the doors to new worlds and soaking up new ideas to use in our own writing. We read lots of wonderful texts in Year 2, my favourite being ‘Dear Earth’, which brings together the three things I am most passionate about: travelling, nature and looking after our planet. I love being outdoors and hope to use the fantastic outdoor spaces at Hillcrest as much as possible.
We cover lots of interesting and inspiring topics in Year 2, all supported by our fantastic text-linked curriculum. We also love to link our learning with the outdoors as much as possible; there have been so many learning opportunities, especially with our classroom being next to the school pond. Imagine our excitement discovering the frogspawn and then tracking the growth of the tadpoles each week; we are now all experts on the life cycle of a frog!
When I am not teaching Planets class, I enjoy spending time with my family and practising my photography and videography skills. My other hobbies include Scouting, playing my trombone, travelling around the world and, of course, reading!
