Year 2 Comets
Welcome to Comets Class!
My name is Mr Chalkley, I am the class teacher for Comets Class, and I work alongside our terrific teaching assistant Mrs Parker-Coleman. Together, with Planets, we make up the year 2 team and end the children on their Key Stage One journey. When I am not teaching Comets Class I enjoy playing cricket and refereeing, both of these sports have provided me with endless skills and team building opportunities that is reflected in my daily teaching.
In Comets class, we aspire to have a classroom environment where the children value themselves and their peers. In our classroom you will find enthusiastic, hardworking, resilient and independent children.
Our learning, in Comets class, pivots around our core TLC books, which allow us to dive into our curriculum and explore the learning objectives outlined in the National Curriculum. Our learning is made memorable through our TLC books, with the characters and stories connecting personally with the children. These TLC books facilitate cross-curricula links and enable us to explore a range of topics both inside and outside the classroom.
Additionally, taking prominence throughout the year is English and maths, building upon the skills learnt in year 1. PE will also take place twice a week and where possible be brought into other subjects, as I believe the benefits of physical exercise can support children’s learning, as well as their independence and understanding.
This year more than ever, will see Comets Class working hard providing the children with the expertise and skills needed to promote lifelong learning, which will stay with the children and support them, not only through their time at Hillcrest, but beyond.
Our potential, as Comets Class, is endless.
