Proteus Class

 Welcome to Proteus Class!

In September 2019, Proteus class officially became the third Year 6 class at Hillcrest. My name is Mr Martin, Proteus’ class teacher, and I work alongside our lovely teaching assistants Mrs Hobbs and Mrs Birt.
Together we work with Neptune and Earth class to be role models for the school.

In Proteus class, you will find hard-working, enthusiastic pupils who love learning. We have a fantastic selection of TLC books including; The Arrival by Shaun Tan, Mortal Engines by Phillip Reeve and Skellig by
David Almond. These texts are our inspiration for learning across the curriculum.

New to the 2019/20 academic year, Proteus class are taking part in the new Independent Learning initiative. The pupils are taught skills in foundation subjects and then set exciting projects to complete
independently.

We enjoy many opportunities to make learning exciting, such as: Sports Week, STEM Week and our visit to Amazona Zoo where we learn about the rainforest and its inhabitants!

In addition to our trip to Amazona, we also have the amazing experience of a residential trip to Hilltop. This takes place during the summer term and is something we look forward to all year. Obviously,
before we reach the summer, we ensure we work hard to prepare for the SATs in May. During SATs week, we work hard to achieve our best in the tests but we also have a fun-filled timetable.

Exclusively to November 2019, we will be sending 18 pupils off to our partner school in SWEDEN to gain an insight into their independent learning and education. What a fantastic opportunity!

Year 6 is a very busy and exciting year, as we support and encourage children to become independent, confident learners, fully prepared to make the next step in their educational career.
