Welcome to Neptune class!
Neptune is home to an enthusiastic, hard-working group of Year 6 pupils. I am the class teacher, Mrs Cawley and I work alongside Mrs Birt, our invaluable teaching assistant. We work closely with our partner class, Earth, and together we work hard to fulfil our task as role models for the school.
In Neptune class, we enjoy becoming involved in our quality core texts, using these as inspiration for our learning across the curriculum. Mrs Cawley’s favourite text is Mortal Engines while Mrs Birt favours Skellig; it is often difficult for the children to choose between our wide range of titles covered:
- The Arrival by Sean Tann
- Clockwork by Philip Pullman
- Skellig by David Almond
- Mortal Engines by Phillip Reeve
- The Red Pyramid by Rick Riordan
We enjoy lots of opportunities to make learning exiting, such as: mummifying a tomato, sampling food from across the World and visiting Amazona Zoo to discover life in a rainforest.
In addition to our trip to Amazona, we also have the amazing experience of a residential trip to Hilltop. This takes place during the summer term and is something we look forward to all year. Obviously, before we reach the summer, we ensure we work hard to prepare for the SATs in May. During SATs week, we work hard to achieve our best in the tests but we also have a fun-filled timetable. This includes Breakfast Club, where bacon sandwiches are on the menu and numerous inter-class rounder games, just to keep that competitive edge going!
Year 6 is a very busy and exciting year, as we support and encourage children to become independent, confident learners, fully prepared to make the next step in their educational career.
