UPDATE ON THE DELAYED BUILDING WORK - NEW ARRANGEMENTS FOR THE START OF THE NEW SCHOOL YEAR

Hillcrest continues to resemble a building site and with the likelihood that the new Reception classrooms will not be ready for a few more weeks yet, we have had to make alternative arrangements for some year groups as we enter the start of the new school year.

New Reception pupils

The Reception pupils, due to start school for the first time in September, can now return on the same day as all of the children in the rest of the school, Wednesday 4th September.

Originally they were not going to return to school until Monday 9th September, but now that the delay to the new Reception classrooms isn't just going to be a matter of days, but possibly weeks, we cannot delay their start to school any further.

Instead, we intend to bring them into school on the same day that everyone else starts. However, Suns Class will now be taught in the temporary classrooms that Suns occupied last year and which the new pupils would have had their introductory lesson in, back in July.

Asteroids Class will be taught out of the temporary Moons classroom used towards the end of last year and which is located at the end of the corridor, closest to the Key Stage 2 playground.

Although the children won't be moving straight into their new classrooms in September, at least they will be familiar with these rooms and this end of the school, from their welcome visits held towards the end of last year.

The school will then be closed to Reception pupils on Friday 18th October so that staff can complete the move into the new classrooms.

Therefore, the October half-term break will now run from Friday 18th October to Monday 28th October (inclusive) with the children moving into their brand new classrooms on Tuesday 29th October.

Year 3

Mrs Freeman's Pluto Class will not be affected and the children can move straight into the classroom that they were planned to go in, which was a temporary Reception classroom towards the end of last year.

Tethys and Mercury will start the new school year based in the old Year 5 mobile, the only mobile unit that remains on site.

Tethys will be based in the classroom on the right-hand side as you enter the main entrance, whilst Mercury will be based on the left-hand side.

The school will then be closed to Year 3 pupils on Friday 18th October so that staff can complete the move into the new classrooms.

Therefore, the October half-term break will now run from Friday 18th October to Monday 28th October (inclusive) with the children moving into the temporary Reception classrooms on Tuesday 29th October.

Years 1 & 2

Pupils in Years 1 and 2 will be largely unaffected by the delayed building works and will begin the school year where they expect to be based.

However, because of the amount of work involved in moving furniture and resources around the original school building as part of reorganising the Reception and Year 3 classes, Hillcrest will have to close to all pupils in Years R, 1, 2 & 3 on Friday 18th October.

Therefore, the October half-term break will now run from Friday 18th October to Monday 28th October (inclusive)

Years 4, 5 & 6

The pupils based in the new 'i' building from across Years 4, 5 & 6 will be unaffected by the movements elsewhere as they are largely self-contained. Therefore, school will remain OPEN to these pupils as normal on Friday 18th October.

You will also find attached a file containing a letter from Norfolk County Council outlining their position regarding the delay in the building works

We look forward to seeing all of the children return to school on Wednesday 4th September and hope that you all had an enjoyable and relaxing summer break.
