Welcome to Nebulas Class!

 

My name is Miss Longworth and I am the teacher of Nebulas Class with the support of our fantastic Teaching Assistants, Mrs Drake and Miss Barker. We look forward to having a fun year with lots of learning taking place along the way!

At the heart of our Year 1 curriculum are a range of engaging and high-quality TLC texts that inspire children’s learning across all subjects. These carefully selected books introduce a variety of topics and experiences, helping to foster a love of reading while sparking curiosity and imagination. 

We aim to have a classroom environment where every child feels safe, valued and confident to explore their learning and embrace new challenges. Through Hillcrest’s 5 C’s and 3B4T, we encourage children to develop independence, resilience and a positive attitude towards learning. As the children progress through Year 1, we support them in building the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to reach their full potential and become successful learners.

Tapestry is a lovely way for us to stay connected with you throughout your child’s Year 1 journey. We use it to celebrate the little moments that matter — whether it’s a discovery in outdoor learning, or the fun of our carousel activities. You’ll also see snapshots from all of our foundation subjects, giving you a warm, real sense of what your child is exploring and enjoying each week. We love when families share achievements from home too; it helps us build a fuller, more personal picture of who your child is becoming.

 

Children also upload their homework to Tapestry, which helps them grow in independence and gives us a chance to respond with encouragement and feedback. Altogether, Tapestry helps us keep communication open, positive and personal — so you always feel part of your child’s learning adventure in Year 1.
