Hello and welcome to Meteors Class!

My name is Mr Chalkley, and I am the Year 1 class teacher. We are also very fortunate to have Miss Barker as our teaching assistant, who will be supporting the children throughout the year.

This year, we are excited to continue the wonderful learning journey that began during the children's time in Suns Class. We will build upon their achievements from Reception, helping them to grow in confidence, independence, and curiosity as they embrace new challenges and experiences.

As a school, we place great importance on developing the 5Cs in all that we do. Throughout the year, the children will continue to strengthen their Communication, Confidence, Creativity, Curiosity and Coordination through a wide range of engaging learning experiences. These essential qualities help children become confident, independent learners who are resilient, motivated and ready to embrace new challenges both in and beyond the classroom.

In Year 1, we are fortunate to explore a range of fantastic TLC texts, covering a variety of topics and themes. These texts underpin our learning, inspiring engaging classroom displays and exciting activities for your child. They also provide meaningful opportunities to delve into our curriculum and work towards the learning objectives outlined in the National Curriculum.

We continue to build upon many of the successful learning approaches introduced in Reception. This year, outdoor learning will play an even more prominent role in the children's education. We are delighted that the children will continue to participate in Forest School sessions with Mrs Farr, providing them with valuable opportunities to immerse themselves in their learning, develop independence, and take pride in their achievements.

Year 1 is an exciting and important year, during which we support your child in becoming an independent and confident member of Meteors Class. By the end of the year, they will be well prepared and ready to continue their learning journey into Year 2.

Tapestry is a lovely way for us to stay connected with you throughout your child’s Year 1 journey. We use it to celebrate the little moments that matter — whether it’s a discovery in outdoor learning, or the fun of our carousel activities. You’ll also see snapshots from all of our foundation subjects, giving you a warm, real sense of what your child is exploring and enjoying each week. We love when families share achievements from home too; it helps us build a fuller, more personal picture of who your child is becoming.

 

Children also upload their homework to Tapestry, which helps them grow in independence and gives us a chance to respond with encouragement and feedback. Altogether, Tapestry helps us keep communication open, positive and personal — so you always feel part of your child’s learning adventure in Year 1.
