Welcome to Mercury Class!

 

Hello I am Mrs Roberts and I am very excited to be teaching Year 3 this year. Year 3 is such an important step as the children move into Key Stage 2. It is a time for developing independence, taking on new responsibilities and growing in confidence as learners. 

Mercury Class is going to be out of this world; investigating lots of different scientific questions and carrying out experiments to promote discovery and learning. The children will have time, space and resources to exercise their curiosity and explore how and why things work using their 5Cs!

 

In Mercury Class, we believe that reading is an essential part of every child’s learning journey. Throughout Year 3, we will continue to nurture a strong and lasting enjoyment of books, encouraging children to become confident, enthusiastic and independent readers. Reading is something I value greatly and enjoy personally, and I look forward to sharing that enthusiasm with the children. Through regular reading, children develop their vocabulary, broaden their knowledge, strengthen their imagination and gain a deeper understanding of the world around them. We will enjoy a variety of wonderful stories together, explore our TLC books in depth, and encourage children to make reading a regular part of their lives both at school and at home.

 

Our TLC books form an important thread throughout the Year 3 curriculum, helping us to bring different areas of learning together in meaningful and engaging ways. Through these carefully chosen texts, the children will have opportunities to read, write, perform, discuss ideas and develop their understanding across the curriculum. We will use stories as a springboard for curiosity and learning, encouraging children to think deeply, make connections, ask questions and share their own ideas. Above all, I hope that every child in Mercury Class develops a lifelong appreciation for books and experiences the excitement, comfort and endless possibilities that reading can bring.

 

Joining us on our learning journey will be Mrs Craigen (our teaching assistant), Mrs Sivell (our HLTA) and Mrs Palmer (our parent volunteer) who will support the children’s learning while encouraging independence, promoting confidence and self-esteem as well as motivation and perseverance.
