Year 3 Mercury
Welcome to Mercury Class! My name is Mrs Whittaker, and we are supported by our delightful and dedicated Year 3 Teaching Assistant, Mrs Gathercole. Mercury is one of our two wonderful Year 3 classes, and we work closely together to provide exciting and inspiring learning experiences.
In Mercury, we aim to develop a positive, independent and imaginative approach to learning. Our lessons are driven by our engaging Text Linked Curriculum, using fun, adventurous and exciting books that spark curiosity and inspire creativity across all subjects.
At Hillcrest School, we encourage children to become confident, independent learners through the use of the 5Cs - Creative, Communicate, Coordinated, Confident and Curious. These skills underpin everything we do, helping children to challenge themselves, take ownership of their learning, and develop resilience.
Reading is central to our learning journey, as it opens the door to understanding and enjoyment across the curriculum. We believe that through exploring inspiring texts, children not only foster a love of stories but also build the foundations for strong writing and comprehension skills.
In mathematics, we focus on developing fluency in number, calculation, shape and measure, alongside problem-solving and investigations that connect mathematical ideas to real-life contexts.
In Mercury Class, every child is valued as an individual with unique talents and limitless potential. We are committed to nurturing their confidence, imagination and independence, so they are equipped to dream big and achieve their goals.
